ABO Energy Finalizes Sale of Battery Projects in South Africa

ABO Energy has completed the sale of two battery storage systems in South Africa to EDF. These systems, located near Aggeneys and Vryburg, each boast a power output of 77 megawatts and a storage capacity of 308 megawatt hours. The projects were developed into ready to build status before EDF secured preferred bidder status in 2023 under the Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (BESIPPPP).

This marks ABO Energy's first South African battery projects to achieve financial close. Since its establishment in 2017, ABO Energy has been successfully developing projects, with a cumulative 500 megawatts of wind and solar projects sold since 2021. The local team targets a 5-gigawatt pipeline of renewable energy projects across South Africa.
