Arkisys Successfully Demonstrates Satellite Assembly in One Hour

Arkisys™, a Los Angeles-based space company, has achieved a significant milestone by assembling a prototype satellite in just one hour on their ground testbed. This accomplishment was made in collaboration with SpaceWerx. The goal is to shift space system integration from the ground to space.

"Our Port architecture for space allows any system or payload to be modified or upgraded after launch," stated Dr. Rahul Rughani, Chief Systems Engineer at Arkisys. Arkisys is working towards creating sustainable space systems that can upgrade over time, supported by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and SpaceWerx.

According to Dave Barnhart, founder and CEO, "Space has been a throwaway culture. We aim to change that by using our Ports, which support customers' growth in orbit through multiple connecting interfaces and robotics." The Port architecture aims to transform single-use, single-life space systems into long-term platforms.

In these demonstrations, Arkisys teamed up with Motiv Space Systems, iBOSS, Texas A&M University, and Novawurks to prove that complex space platform assembly can transition from ground to space.

Arkisys invites global industry players to conduct multiple tests through the summer of 2024. "Our testbed and rapid integration capability act like a high-performance racing garage for space hardware," stated Noah Gladden, Chief of Manufacturing at Arkisys.
