WATERLOO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / September 24, 2024 - BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB) released its latest Global Threat Intelligence Report, revealing a 53% rise in unique malware samples stopped daily. This marks one of the highest quarter-over-quarter increases since shifting to quarterly threat reports.

The company halted a total of 3.7 million attacks from April to June 2024, an 18% increase from the prior period. Critical Infrastructure remains a top target with over 800,000 attacks, half of which focused on the financial sector. Attacks on this sector rose by 25% overall.

"Threat groups are prioritizing the impact of their attacks," noted Ismael Valenzuela, VP of Threat Research and Intelligence at BlackBerry. Minor alterations in malware contribute significantly to the severity of cyberattacks.

Key takeaways include the escalation of geopolitical tensions, a rise in attacks on critical infrastructure, and an increase in commercial enterprise attacks by 58%. Deepfake technology and the exploitation of chaos during disruptions are also notable trends.
