Borussia Dortmund Gears Up for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025
Borussia Dortmund has officially qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup, as confirmed in a late announcement on Wednesday. The much-anticipated tournament is scheduled to take place in the summer of 2025, from June 15 to July 13, across various venues in the United States. This event will mark the first instance of the tournament being held with a revised format, featuring 32 competing clubs.
The Club World Cup will include a diverse roster of teams, with twelve slots allocated to European clubs as per the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The selection criteria will consider UEFA Champions League winners from 2021 to 2024 and the highest-ranking clubs based on a club ranking reflecting performances from the 2020/21 to 2023/24 seasons. Only two clubs from each national association are allowed to participate, barring exceptions tied to Champions League victories.
The tournament will initiate with eight preliminary round groups, each comprising four teams. Out of these, four groups will host two European clubs each. The participant roster will be rounded out by clubs from South America, Africa, Asia, North and Central America, Oceania, and a club from the host nation, the USA. Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, culminating in a final match on July 13, 2025.
