Eiffage, via its Belgian subsidiary Eiffage Métal Smulders, alongside HSM Offshore Energy and Iv-Offshore & Energy, has won an EPCIC contract from Elia Transmission Belgium. The consortium will construct four electrical substations on Princess Elisabeth Island, marking the world's first artificial energy island.

The contract includes the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of high-voltage infrastructure. The island will feature two 1,050-megawatt substations and two 700-megawatt substations, a service module, and a garage.

Construction is set to begin in May 2025 and finish by early 2029, with final assembly in the Netherlands and installation commencing in 2027. The completion is targeted for 2030.

Located 45 kilometers off the Belgian coast, Princess Elisabeth Island will combine HVDC and HVAC technologies, acting as a centralized hub for offshore wind-generated electricity. It will also facilitate energy exchange between countries.

This contract reinforces Eiffage's expertise in offshore wind infrastructure, following successful projects across Europe.
