Energiekontor and Salzgitter Flachstahl Sign PPAs for Solar Projects

Energiekontor AG and Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH have signed their first long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for two solar park projects in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. These projects are now ready for construction, with commissioning planned for mid-2026. The two solar parks will have a total generation capacity of around 113 megawatts peak.

Under the agreements, Energiekontor will supply Salzgitter Flachstahl with more than 120 gigawatt hours of green electricity annually, reducing CO2 emissions by nearly 84,000 tonnes per year. The collaboration supports the decarbonisation of heavy industry in Germany, crucial for achieving climate targets.

The partnership aligns with Salzgitter's SALCOS® program aimed at climate-neutral steel production. Green electricity will generate hydrogen to replace coal in traditional steelmaking, leading to substantial CO2 emission reductions. Both companies emphasize the importance of planning security and strategic cooperation in the volatile market environment.
