EU Commission Upholds Legality of Air France-KLM State Aid

Paris, July 10, 2024 – Air France-KLM has welcomed the European Commission's decision affirming that the liquidity support provided by the French and Dutch governments during the Covid-19 crisis complied with EU State aid regulations. These measures, initiated in 2020, included State guaranteed loans and direct State loans, fully repaid by June 2022 and April 2023, respectively.

This ruling does not affect ongoing appeals by the European Commission, Air France, KLM, and Air France-KLM against the General Court of the EU. The Court had annulled the Commission’s initial decisions due to an alleged error in identifying the aid beneficiary. The Court of Justice of the European Union will make the final decision on these appeals.
