FireFly Automatix to Autonomously Maintain Black Desert Resort Golf Course

FireFly Automatix will use its electric Autonomous Mowing Platforms (AMPs) to mow the golf course at Black Desert Resort, Southern Utah, during the 2024 Black Desert Championship from October 9-13. The fleet of four 100-inch-wide, 5-gang reel mowers will maintain all 60 acres of fairways at night, marking a historic first for autonomous mowing at a professional golf tournament.

Steve Aposhian, Chairman and CTO of FireFly Automatix, emphasized the importance of this milestone, highlighting the technological advancements of AMP, which are revolutionizing the industry. Launched last year, the AMP-L100 models use RTK GPS guidance to mow straight lines accurately, even in the dark. This allows the golf course to remain in peak condition without interrupting play.

The all-electric AMP mowers complement Black Desert's conservation efforts by being nearly silent and non-polluting. The absence of traditional fuel and hydraulic systems reduces the risk of leaks and further protects the turf by eliminating tire scrubbing and torque imbalances. This results in less turf damage and better maneuverability.

Mark LeBlanc, Lead Engineer at FireFly Automatix, stated that the AMP was designed from the ground up to be autonomous, enhancing its electrical and mechanical efficiency. The innovative design improves the cut quality and reduces vibration, setting a new standard for fairway maintenance.
