Formerra and AFC Ecoplastics Announce Partnership to Distribute Compostable Materials

ROMEOVILLE, IL—Formerra, a leader in performance materials distribution, has partnered with AFC Ecoplastics to distribute compostable polymers across North America. This strategic alliance targets consumer and medical packaging markets, providing sustainable alternatives that satisfy stringent environmental criteria.

The partnership will see Formerra distributing a suite of AFC's compostable resins, compounds, and colorants, such as PBAT and PBS resins. These products are designed for use in both consumer packaged goods and medical packaging, adhering to the increasing demand for eco-friendly solutions. Additionally, the materials have secured Health Canada and FDA approvals.

According to Ha Le, CEO of AFC Ecoplastics, this collaboration is a pivotal move to widen the impact of AFC's sustainable materials. Complementing AFC's innovation, Formerra's established distribution network and technical expertise will enhance the commercial viability of these biodegradable solutions.

Mike Balasko, Formerra’s Director of Sustainability and Business Development, emphasized the collaboration's role in assisting brands to meet evolving regulations and consumer expectations towards sustainable packaging. The materials used are BPI certified and also possess TÜV OK Compost industrial certification (EN 13432), ensuring they are suitable for industrial composting processes.
