Jumia to Exit South Africa and Tunisia to Focus on Growth Markets

Jumia Technologies AG, a prominent e-commerce platform in Africa, has announced the cessation of its operations in South Africa and Tunisia by the end of 2024. The decision aligns with the company's strategy to concentrate on markets with higher growth potential.

For the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023, South Africa and Tunisia constituted a mere 3.5% of total orders and 4.5% of Gross Merchandise Value (GMV). CEO Francis Dufay highlighted that competitive and macroeconomic challenges limited growth in these regions.

Jumia aims to streamline resources across its remaining markets to bolster efficiency and profitability. This strategic move is expected to refine Jumia's focus and accelerate growth across its other African markets.
