Klöckner & Co Receives German Award for Sustainability Projects 2024

Klöckner & Co SE has been awarded the German Award for Sustainability Projects 2024 for its "Nexigen® – Green Steel" initiative. Winning first place in the "Supply chain" category, the company was recognized for establishing transparency regarding the carbon footprint of products throughout the supply chain, providing value across multiple industries.

The award was presented by a high-profile jury from business, science, and media, which evaluated around 350 nominations in 28 categories. The Nexigen® initiative facilitates the purchase of CO2-reduced steel and metal products while providing detailed carbon footprint data, aiding customers in making sustainable choices.

Klöckner & Co views decarbonization as a strategic opportunity, reflected in their comprehensive development of sustainable business models and the launch of the Nexigen® brand. The brand offers a range of low-carbon solutions and includes the Nexigen® PCF Algorithm, a TÜV SÜD certified tool for calculating product carbon footprints.

The company’s commitment to sustainability is further validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, endorsing its net zero CO2 targets by 2050. The award, under the auspices of former Federal Minister of Economics Brigitte Zypries, promotes the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and is presented by the German Institute for Service Quality, ntv, and DUP Magazin.
