NanosTech Achieves Breakthrough in Catalyst Technology
NanosTech has recently published a research article in 'Science,' marking a significant advancement in catalyst technologies for energy efficiency. The study, titled "An active, stable cubic molybdenum carbide catalyst for the high-temperature reverse water-gas shift reaction," highlights the development and commercial potential of cubic molybdenum carbide as a catalyst. This innovation could play a pivotal role in transforming the energy sector by facilitating a shift to cleaner energy sources.
Originating from research conducted at the University of Calgary, the effort was led by Milad Ahmadi Khoshooei, Pedro Pereira-Almao, and Gerardo Vitale, who pioneered the foundational studies that began in 2015. Their work has culminated in a viable commercial application spearheaded by NanosTech, a spin-off from the university. This technology supports the transition from conventional fossil fuels to renewable alternatives, such as hydrogen or synthetic fuels, by enhancing the performance, efficiency, and reduction of emissions in the energy production process.
According to NanosTech's CEO, Myles McGovern, this breakthrough could significantly improve the Energy Returned on Energy Invested (ERoEI) rates, which is crucial for sustainable development in the energy sector. The company fosters innovation based on Green Chemistry principles, aiming to contribute positively to the energy industry and environmental sustainability.
