OTAQ Secures Contract with Ireland's Seafood Development Agency
OTAQ plc, the technology company focused on aquaculture and offshore markets, has clinched a contract with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), Ireland’s Seafood Development Agency. The deal involves the rental of two Live Plankton Analysis System (LPAS) units through the end of 2024.
One LPAS unit will be deployed with a global seafood producer affected by Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) events in recent years, leading to significant stock losses. The LPAS integrates AI technology to automate algae identification and quantification, enhancing monitoring processes.
Damien Toner from BIM highlighted the benefits of LPAS in streamlining algae monitoring, saying it assists farmers in managing operational risks. Richard Beesley of OTAQ emphasized the growing challenge of HAB in aquaculture and the role of LPAS in addressing these issues.
