Porsche Launches Electromobility Production at Leipzig Factory

Porsche AG marked the commencement of electromobility production with the electric Macan at its expanded Leipzig facility on May 14, 2024. This initiative follows the company's investment of approximately 600 million euros aimed at producing electric vehicles which include the addition of a new body assembly line. The factory now boasts the capability to produce petrol, hybrid, and all-electric cars on a singular, flexible production line, reflecting the future of diverse automotive manufacturing.

The event saw distinguished guests from both corporate and political realms, including Porsche executives and German political leaders, highlighting the factory’s role in pushing forward the transition to electromobility in Germany. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board, stated Porsche's strategy for increasing the rollout of electric vehicles to over 80% by 2030, dependent on market demand and regional development conditions. Additionally, Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing emphasized the combined efforts needed to enhance the electromobility attraction and infrastructure in Germany, crucial for the eventual shift from conventional to electric vehicles.
