Carrefour partners with GreenYellow to produce photovoltaic power in France
The Carrefour Group today announces that it has entered into a partnership with GreenYellow, the leader in decentralized energy transi on in France and interna onally, for the installa on and opera on of photovoltaic power produc on equipment on around 350 of its hypermarket and supermarket car parks in France. This ini a ve is in line with the Carrefour 2026 plan and its ambi on to enhance the value of real estate assets, reflected in a solar power produc on target in France, Spain and Brazil of 1 TWh per year as from 2027.
This partnership offers many advantages:
● A significant reduc on in energy bills thanks to self-consump on
● A contribu on to the objec ve of using 100% renewable energy in the Group’s total electricity consump on by 2030
● The early considera on of the consequences of the ApER Law on the obliga on to install photovoltaic panels on car parks of over 1,500 sqm
● Improved customer path and sa sfac on, thanks to shade structures protec ng from bad weather and sun
The equipment - shade structures equipped with solar panels - will be financed by GreenYellow, who is bringing its exper se as a highly-recognized solar operator in the food retail sector. Within three years, this equipment will enable electricity produc on to reach about 450 GWh per year, represen ng roughly the consump on of a city of 200,000 inhabitants.
The energy produced will cover around 20% of Carrefour stores’needs, at very a rac ve rates. Surplus produc on, not stored, will be injected into the network or for the benefit of consumers in direct proximity, thus genera ng addi onal revenue for the Group.
Alexandre Bompard, Chairman and Chief Execu ve Officer of the Carrefour Group, declared : “ This partnership is a major milestone in our Carrefour 2026 plan, which places the fight against climate change as one of its key strategic objec ves. We are thus accelera ng the large-scale deployment of photovoltaic power plants in our stores in order to achieve our goal of using 100% renewable electricity by 2030. GreenYellow’s exper se will enable us to succeed in this major impact project, which is as virtuous for the ecological transi on as it is for the value of our real estate assets. ”
